The next Armageddon Rock release, Love in my Hand, was from 'a group called"Jon Ramsey". Jon had help from bassist Jeremy Johnson and drummer Rickk Gray on this one, and performed 6 shows to support the album. The name departs from the earlier Song of Chance moniker, since only Rickk was the sole collaborator on 'In the Black' and wished to distinguish the project as a 'live' group. Love in my Hand is a full-length stripped down, acoustic rock album equally paying homage to early proto rock'n'roll, traditional american folk, and punk.
In September 2009, Jon Ramsey once again teamed up with producer John Morand. The product of this endeavor was the solo release of Sever Connection, a 4-song release exploring alienation, happiness, futility, love, death... the usual Armageddon Rock themes. This is the first digital-only release on Back-of-the-Napkin records(a small quantity of CD's will be available from the artist and Plan 9). Some chances were definetly taken in the making of the release since the material was very new, but Jon felt like it was the right time to record the songs. John Morand also took a very straightforward production approach and experimented with capturing the percussive sounds of the guitar with an extra microphone mounted in front of the guitar's pickup. The result was simple and effective, very direct much like the music on the album. |
